D.A.Smalley: FOR CHARLEN

For Charlen

Let us seek the gentle sighs
touches soft and fireflies
whereupon our memory lies
and in the evening oftly tries
to wrap us in her splendid guise,-
O! remembrance of the lovely scent
      amongst the dusky roses went
      running, laughter love unpent
hand in hand in sweet ascent
      along the path of innocence,-
Til at last in tender sight
             by firefly and firelight
             a quiet kiss I thought I might
             steal in that stolen night...
