A. SCHERBAKOV: "Every Man's a Full Flask..."

"Every Man's a Full Flask..."

(From Omar Khayyam)
Every man’s a full flask or a flute, the gentle,
His heart’s filled with red wine, or with music rattled.
What, Khayyam considers, is the human soul?
It’s a little fire by a flesh-thief mantled.

Translated by Yevgeny Bonver, February, 2003
